Oh I'm such a slacker

And I don't have any pictures right now. Our desktop computer crashed a few weeks ago so Josh is in the process of putting everything back on. So I thought I would just update the blog with some G-facts and try to get pictures up soon.
Gavin had his 18 month checkup back in February and he is now between 27-28 lbs and is 33 inches tall. He's SO not a baby anymore, he looks like a little boy. He still gets shy around people he's not used to or in new situations. But once he's comfortable, watch out! The kid can "talk" your ear off. He's got a bunch of words now. So far he's saying "mama" "daddy" "da"(dog), "bah"(ball), "more", "peas"(please), "nana"(banana), "papa"(grandpa), "ca"(car), "caca"(cracker or cookie), "shoes", "joos"(juice), "chse"(cheers), "ks"(socks). It takes a degree in foreign language some days...

Snow day!!

I know we live in Colorado but I can't ever remember having this much snow this early in the 13 years I have lived here. Woah, have we really lived here 13 years? Anyways...
We got almost 2 feet of snow back in October. It was crazy! G was too little to remember snow last year so this was pretty much his first experience. He wasn't too thrilled at first but after while he was having fun. Josh bought him his own little shovel so when we got another 10 inches last night Gavin got to help his daddy shovel the walks while mama got to sleep in!! Now that's a good day!

A Week called Halloween

Halloween doesn't seem to be much of a "day" anymore. It seems like it's more of a week, which is fine with me. G was sick on the actual day so it was a good thing that we had him in his costume a few times before. We took him in it to a pumpkin patch but with the crazy Colorado weather it was too hot to leave him to be a giraffe for very long. We took him to a friend's costume party the weekend before and he got to ride a rocking horse.
The day of Halloween he was sick and we sat on the couch while Josh handed out candy with his "one for them one for me" rule. That's a good rule!

I've been so bad about getting new pictures on here! So sorry, it's tough getting the time to download off the camera and come up with a blog post with something interesting to say...but anyways!
In September G and I went to the zoo with one of my bosses and her little boy. We had a good time! G liked the elephants and he also liked his goldfish crackers. Big surprise.
Aunt Jen came out to visit later in the month and I think she could have squeezed Mr G all day long and not gotten enough. He had a good time playing with her while she was here! We miss you!!

We all know babies don't remember their first birthday party. It's all for the parents. Well, these parents sure enjoyed Gavin's!
We went up to G's Mamaw and Pawpaw's house for the day. Grandma Donna was here for the weekend, so G got lots of grandparent hugs and kisses. He had his very own cake that his Aunt Michelle made for him. One of Gavin's favorite foods is goldfish crackers, so she made him two cakes in teh shape of the goldfish. They were too cute!
G got lots of fun toys, he's been having so much fun playing with everything since that day.

Aw Hail!

A week ago we got nailed with a huge hail storm. The news reported it was the second most costly hail storm on record for the area on record with over 52,000 insurance claims filed in the last week. Luckily we were all OK, but our house and grill cover have seen better days. Stella didn't care too much for the noise but it didn't both G Man. He didn't wake up until he was snatched from his crib and carried to the basement for what sounded like the end of the world!

That darn hand...or was it a foot?

It was either a hand, a foot or a mouth that got Gavin sick! We had to take him to the dr this weekend because he had a high fever and we wanted to make sure it wasn't related to a rash he's had on his face. Nope, nothing with the rash but he does have Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. It's a virus that causes spots/ulcers on kiddos and it's pretty uncomfortable. G's been a trooper, he's doped up on Motrin and lots of snuggle time. He was so worn out by the fever that goes along with it that a car ride was all it took to knock him out! But when he woke up all he wanted was some lap time with his dad...and one of his golf clubs.

11 months today

A year ago I was probably sitting on my couch wondering if my belly button would ever be an innie again. Today Gavin only has one more month until he turns one...and honestly it makes me a little teary to think how much he's grown over the last year.
But, enough of the sappy stuff! We've had a fun couple of weeks. G finished his swimming lessons and finally made it through a whole class only crying a little bit. We went to the mountains with our friends Cathleen and Kraig and their baby Addison. We went to the lake on the 4th of July and Gavin got to wear his first cowboy hat. It's been a great summer so far!

We took G-Man to church for the first time on Easter Sunday. He did great! He went in his PaPaw's arms to the alter to get his first blessing by Fr Rol, who was the priest that married Josh and I. G seemed to like him.
After Easter he got a yucky virus that took him down for a few days. If your nase is stuffed up but you still want to suck on your paci, just stick the paci out the side of your mouth and then you can still breathe!
But one of the biggest bits of news we have is G is crawling and pulling up on things! He's a champ the "army crawl" and likes to pull up on people's legs. He also likes to ride around on his little truck and is learning how to walk while pushing it. Last weekend we took a walk and Gavin got to ride in a real swing for the first time. He was not so fond of it, so we'll keep practicing.

Tubes, anyone?

Mr G had tubes put in his little ears this morning. After 4 ear infections in 4 months we and the doctors decided that would help him. Not only will it hopefully cut down on the infections but he'll hear much better.
We went in first thing this morning and the surgery was at 8:00 AM. I was worried that he might flip out about not getting to have his bottle first thing in the morning, but as long as he had his pacifier, life was good. They did all of his pre-op stuff and then took him off into surgery. I was very proud of myself, I didn't even cry! The surgery took about 15 minutes and then we were able to go in and see him. He was pretty pissed off until he got to have a nice warm bottle, then life was good.
Keep us in your prayers that this works. No more ear infections!!!

Bass Pro Shop

We took G to the Bass Pro Shop today for the first time. We thought he needed to see the Easter Bunny for the first time and he got his picture taken. We also took him to see the fish in the aquarium and sit on an ATV. He loved it!
G also tried mashed potatoes for the first time today. They were a winner!

Almost 7 months!

I can't believe Gavin is going to be 7 months next week! The time has gone by so fast. We've just been working on staying healthy, he's got those two little teeth on the bottom and wow, are they cute! He's rolling all over the place and I don't think it'll be too long before he tries out crawling. Then we should all be scared, very scared!

Teething sucks.
I have no pictures to go along with this one, and that is because there has hardly been a point today that G was happy enough to take a picture. And really no one wants to see a picture of a crying, snotty, drooly baby.

Gavin has finally gotten over cold #1,497 and over double ear infection #2! Hooray! Aaaand yesterday when I picked him up from daycare they told us that there is now one confirmed case of RSV in his class. We're just praying that he doesn't get it too, or if he does that it's a mild case. So if you have any spare prayers laying around, send them our way!

...5 months makes! G will be 6 months in about 10 days and I can't believe how fast the time has gone. It seems like it was just yesterday that we were bringing him home and I felt so lost. I seriously wanted to move in to the hospital so they could take care of us. Seriously. The food wasn't that bad and the nurses were AWESOME! But we feel like most days we've figured this whole parenting of a baby thing out. Watch out, I'm sure things are about the change!

The plague

We just can't seem to make it past what we are calling "The Plague" around here. I got a cold on NYE. The Gavin got one after going back to daycare AKA The Petri Dish. Now I have another one that has made a nice happy home in my lungs. At least I don't have to suck snot out of my nose with a bulb like we have to do with G Man.
I don't have any pictures that have to do with our snotty noses so here's something random. We thought we would see what G does with a cup. I guess he likes it!

While we were in Texas Gavin got to try out having a bath in the "big kid bathtub". He loved it! He also tried out oatmeal cereal. He decided cereal is for babies and moved right on to veggies and fruits, starting with prunes. A word of caution...be careful how many prunes you give a baby. Or give him prunes and send him to daycare for the fallout with a couple of changes of clothes. It's not pretty, but he loved them! He has now tried sweet potatoes, carrots and peas, all with great success.
One of our biggest highlights so far of 2009 was our friends Stephanie and Caleb coming to visit from California. They stayed with us for a weekend and Caleb is only a few months older than Gavin. The babies played and Stephanie and I got to plan our futures as inlaws, provided our next baby is a girl. She will have her pick of one of Stephanie's three sons as her future husband.

Christmas!

Wow, Christmas! It seems like it was a long time ago! We spent Christmas Eve at home, just the three of us. We opened Gavin's gifts and a few of our own, put him to bed and then opened the rest of ours. We had to get up early to head to Texas to see Gavin's Nana (Josh's mom) the next morning and Gavin got to have his first plane ride! He did so well, we were really proud of him. We were in Texas for 5 days and came home just in time for New Years. G didn't make it to see the ball drop but that's OK.

Gavin has been a busy little man lately! We started giving him rice cereal last weekend, yeah, he's not so much of a fan of it so far. We tried a couple of times and then stopped because he would just sit there with it in his mouth and cry. It doesn't look very yummy, I might cry too if that was all I got to eat!
We went to Breckenridge with Steve and Nikki a few weekends ago and G got to ride around in the Ergo carrier with Josh. It was cold out but he was a trooper and had lots of fun!
He had his first Christmas this weekend. We are heading to Dallas to see Josh's mom so we did Christmas here this weekend. It was lots of fun!

I have a buddy!

Our wonderful friends Heather and Kaila came to visit from Hawaii last week. It was SO much fun to see them. Kaila will be 4 yrs old in February and she was such a big help with Mr. G, it was like she understood his baby language. She loved to hug him and give him his pacifier. They got to stay with us and that gave Heather and I lots of time to hang out and be moms together, I miss them so much!
On the downside Mr G still has a cold and we took him to the doctor yesterday where we found out he has his first little ear infection. That would explain the waking up and screaming that has been happening at night. He's on antibiotics now and slept all night last night, yay for him! (And us!)

3 1/2 months old!

It's hard to believe Gavin is 3 1/2 months old! He's "talking" more and more every day and surprised us last week by sleeping through the night, from 8 PM until 5 AM! We were so happy, let's make that the norm! Daycare is going well, he seems to like it there and in a few more weeks he'll be big enough the sit in the Exersaucer when he's 4 months.

We went to Halloween party a few weeks ago. Mr G got to see a few of him friends, his buddy Asher who we walked with lots while I was on my maternity leave and his new friend Lydia, who was also a little pumpkin. It was fun!
We tried Gavin in a new "straightjacket" but he was able to get out of this one pretty easily at night. It's called the Miracle Blanket and is supposed to be impossible for them to get out of...unless you have a Houdini baby like we do, then it's just a matter of time. So we're back to the Swaddleme for now. But here's a picture of G in the blanket, it's pretty cute.

Since we're a family around here we like to share things. I'm a little behind on updating the blog because since Gavin got a cold he decided to share it with Josh and I and we are all a bunch of snot nosed kids these days.
Gavin did get to put on his costume and let us take some cutie-pie pictures of him. I know I'm biased but he is seriously adorable. He's still having fun at daycare, he gets so tired that sometimes he falls asleep before we can get him off to bed! We're working on sleeping through the night, it's been a rough couple of weeks but hopefully it'll get easier soon!

Well, I had no doubt Gavin would survive me going back to work but I wasn't so sure about myself. I was so sad to leave him but it was great to get back with everyone at work. The best part was seeing his smiley little face at the end of the day.
G had his 2 month checkup yesterday and everything looks great. He didn't so much enjoy his shots, however they made him sleepy and he slept from 8:30 until 3:45 last night!!! Wow!!!

Mr Gavin LOVES bathtime!

It seems our little guy has some pretty bad eczema, so the doctor recommended he have a soak in the tub every night. While Mr G wasn't too fond of his first bath, he's gotten to be a pro and might be swimming laps in the lake by next summer! If he gets fussy in the evening, into the tub he goes, followed by a nice warm bottle with his dad and then swaddle time and to bed. Then Josh and I have a few hours to just be "Steph and Josh"!

We're all doing well, Gavin has added baths to his list of favorites. So far the list includes: Bathtime, mom's tatas, his swing, Stella giving kisses on his feet and riding in the car. He's not so fond of Stella kisses on the face, getting out of the bathtub and waiting to eat. We're working on it...
